COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (Footsteps – वाटचाल)
Project Overview
Through the Footsteps (वाटचाल) program, the organization works alongside villages surrounding Grace Home to strengthen families and create pathways to dignity and self-reliance. The program focuses on women, children, and youth, supporting access to education, health, livelihoods, and essential services through long-term, community-led engagement.
Purpose and Approach
The Community Development program responds to gaps in access to education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities in rural and semi-rural communities. Rather than operating in isolation, the program works in collaboration with local institutions such as schools, Anganwadis, health centers, self-help groups, and village leadership.
The approach emphasizes awareness, participation, and local ownership, enabling communities to strengthen existing systems and sustain change over time.
Core Focus Areas
·Education and Child Development: Support for school-going children through remedial education, life skills training, child rights awareness, and engagement with local schools.
·Women’s Health and Well-being: Women’s Health and Well-being: Women’s Health and Well-being: Awareness sessions on nutrition, maternal health, menstrual hygiene, and personal care for women, pregnant mothers, and adolescent girls.
·Community Health and Hygiene: Community Health and Hygiene: Community Health and Hygiene: Initiatives that improve access to clean water, sanitation, and preventive healthcare through partnerships with health workers and local institutions.
·Youth and Leadership Development: Programs that build confidence, decision-making, and leadership skills among adolescents and young adults.
·Livelihoods and Local Capacity Building: Engagement with farmers, self-help groups, and community volunteers to strengthen income pathways and local problem-solving.
How the Program Works
The team works closely with village leaders, schools, Anganwadi workers, health professionals, and government departments to ensure services reach those who need them most. Community members and local volunteers are actively involved and trained to carry initiatives forward, building shared responsibility and long-term impact.
Outcomes and Reach
Over the past several years, the Community Development program has supported children, women, and youth across multiple villages through education support, health awareness, life skills training, and access to essential services. The program has strengthened community participation, improved awareness of rights and health practices, and fostered local leadership.
